Perth also has several city parks, among which King's Park and Botanic Gardens is the largest, and in fact the largest city park in the world at 400 hectares. From this green hilly landscape, you will see panoramic views of the city and some beautiful examples of the area's native plant life. It's easy to forget that you're in a city at all with all of this open space, and the Swan River, which runs through the city, adds to the relaxed atmosphere in Perth. The river is an asset to Perth's scenery both within the city and upstream along the Swan Valley, and is a popular recreational feature for many of Perth's inhabitants and visitors alike. Cycle tracks line the river banks, and are perfect for an afternoon stroll or sightseeing by bicycle. River cruises are also available, and run from Perth out of the city towards the coast, 20km away. Alternatively, keen sailors can go yachting on the river, a great way to get around and take in the atmosphere of this intriguing city.

Perth has some spectacular modern and historic landmarks: London Court is a perfectly preserved Tudor street in the middle of the bustling modern city, The Old Mill is one of Perth's oldest buildings, dating from 1930, and Perth Mint is one of the world's oldest mints, still using its original equipment. These historic buildings, among others, give visitors an excellent insight into Perth's heritage. In addition, there are many smaller towns in Greater Perth that are fun to explore on day trips from the city.

Within the city, there are so many great days out it's difficult to know where to start - with this selection of shops, restaurants, bars, galleries and attractions, you'll be spoilt for choice! For kids, the Scitech Science Museum in Perth is bound to capture the imagination of inquisitive visitors, and the Flight Experience Western Australia offers the chance of a lifetime - to fly a Boeing 737 in a flight simulator! The Aquarium of Western Australia is also located in Perth, and showcases different marine species from the whole length of the western coast. Similarly, the city's zoo houses a range of species native to Western Australia, as well as those from further afield. Nature lovers will also want to visit the nearby Coluna Koala Park, and some of the many National Parks in the area. The spectacular Lesmurdie Falls National Park has a waterfall that cascades over 50 metres, while Yanchep National Park on the Sunset Coast is home to a huge range of flora and fauna.

The Sunset Coast of Western Australia, to the north west of Perth, boasts some of the country's best beaches and surf havens. On the mainland, Cottesloe Beach is set in an idyllic bay with calm, clear waters and soft white sand - the perfect spot for swimming, surfing or snorkeling. As well as the selection of beaches on the mainland, Rottnest Island, off the coast of Perth, has many beaches and secluded bays for relaxing and soaking up the sun. The island can be reached by ferry from nearby Freemantle, to the south of Perth, and is great for day trips or longer stays.

With all of this to offer, it's no wonder Perth is a favourite with visitors and locals alike!
