Rich in history, A city break to Brussels takes you to a sophisticated city with a lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Cheap flights, accommodation, holidays and city breaks to Brussels

Even if it is only a weekend break to Brussels that you have time for, start it with a stroll around the magnificent Grand Place – one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. Deservedly regarded as one of the world’s gastronomic capitals, make sure you discover for yourself the first-class cuisine in the restaurants and sample the famous beers and chocolates, which are an essential element of a short break to Brussels. A city break to Brussels is an ideal choice at any time of year.

The European Parliament has its home in Brussels. Often perceived as the heart of Europe, this inland capital city of Belgium is a multi-cultural and multi-lingual city. Indeed, it claims with some justification to be the ‘Capital of Europe’.

Apart from the tiny, but famed Manneken-Pis, a statuette of a urinating boy, Brussels does not have a symbol to rival the Eiffel tower, and therefore its image suffers abroad. More people are now beginning to discover all that can be enjoyed during a short break to Brussels and it is increasing in popularity.

The first visit to Brussels, uncoloured by expectations, is therefore all the more rewarding. The narrow cobbled streets open suddenly into the breathtaking Grand-Place, with its ornate guild houses, impressive Town Hall and buzzing atmosphere. It would be difficult to find a more beautiful square in the whole of Europe, and is for many the highlight of any holiday to Brussels.

With a pleasant temperate climate – warm summers and mild winters – and a host of sights and delights to entertain, a city break to Brussels offers far more than just beer and chocolate (although excelling in both).

Some of Brussels’ most opulent buildings and attractions are clustered around the Parc de Bruxelles. The most important of Belgium’s museum complexes is located close to Place Royal. It boasts two museums, their collections ranging from the 14th century to the modern day. No weekend break to Brussels is complete without bringing home the classic souvenirof chocolate. Fresh creamy pralines are for sale at Wittamer, Place du Grand-Sablon, who have been perfecting their recipes for almost a century.

Every day is market day in the different parts of Brussels. Among the best of these is the flower market at Grand-Place, also the site of the Sunday morning bird market. Antiques are sold at the market on Place du Grand-Sablon, while the flea market at Place du Jeu de Balle is at its best on weekend mornings.
