Kenya

World-famous National Parks. A huge variety of wildlife. Glaciated Mount Kenya. Tropical beaches. A colourful ethnic mix. Kenya is the first, the original, and, without a doubt, the best safari destination.

Cheap flights, accommodation, safaris and holidays to Kenya

Nowhere in Africa is there quite such a rich diversity of landscapes and abundant wildlife, all coupled with some of the Indian Ocean’s finest tropical beaches. Lying on the equator, with the glaciated peaks of Mount Kenya – second highest mountain in Africa – rising from a natural environment of exceptional beauty, Kenya is a hugely rewarding place in which to travel. The country’s dramatically diverse geography has resulted in a great range of natural habitats, while its history of migration and conquest has brought about a complex social panorama

If you come to Kenya, you must go on safari. Whether you chose to safari for your whole trip, or a take a short trip to a game reserve from your beach resort, the chance to see animals in their own environment must not be missed.

In Swahili, the word ‘safari’ means ‘journey’. Today, safari has become a byword for romance and adventure and nothing compares with the thrill of seeing big game in its natural environment. Standards of food and accommodation are generally high, and although the service can be a little slow, it invariably comes with a smile. Interruptions to power and water supplies are not unknown, but this rarely causes visitors major inconvenience. Occasionally, a change of lodge, adverse road conditions or mechanical problems may cause a variation in routing – it is, however, rare for the content of a safari to be significantly altered or game viewing affected. Journeys can be long, especially in the Serengeti, and roads vary from good to rough and from very muddy to dusty! A safari gives you the chance to see the real Africa. It is not cheap, but a balloon flight to view animals followed by a champagne breakfast is an experience and memory that will last a lifetime! The best months for game viewing, although the hottest, are July to September and January to February. March to June and late October to mid-December are the rainy months.

Mombasa
If relaxation is on your mind then head for the coast of Mombasa. Kenya’s tropical coast boasts over 300 miles of beaches lapped by the warm shallow waters of the Indian Ocean. You can easily combine a stay at the coast with a safari to see the amazing wildlife of East Africa or just relax at the coast and enjoy exploring the underwater marine world of the reefs that lie off its shores. Kenya’s beaches make the ideal retreat for relaxation after a safari. For stays at the coast, there is a short internal flight from Nairobi to Mombasa.
