Cheap flights, accommodation and holidays to Menorca
Menorca is a wonderful destination for family fun in unspoilt resorts, picturesque coves scattered along the beautiful coast, and an unhurried atmosphere. A family holiday to Menorca will be a delight. The island’s coastline has been declared a protected area so you’ll find long white beaches like Cala Galdana and Son Bou, and deserted beaches all along the north coast for complete relaxation. What better location for a relaxing Menorcan beach holiday. Many of the beaches have sheltered coves and shallows which are ideal for the whole family. An added bonus is that Menorca is so flat, so there are almost always gentle breezes to refresh hot summer days. A holiday to Menorca will be a real treat for the whole family.
In fact nothing gets too hectic on Menorca and the nightlife, apart from the annual fiestas, is more discrete than that of its bigger neighbours. Most of the bars and discos are low key and individual - there’s even one, Cova d’en Xoroi, in a cave - an experience not to be missed on your holiday to Menorca! One thing that’s always easy to find here is fine food and a friendly welcome. There are great seafood restaurants particularly around Mahon, the capital city of Ciutadella and the old port of Fornells. While on holiday in Menorca, why not try some of the local specialities - garlic prawns, lobster stews, local wines, cheeses and the Gin Xoriguer - distilled locally - are also much sought after. Mahon is also the place that brought the world mayonnaise.
If you fancy a day away from the beach, you'll find plenty to keep you occupied on your Menorcan holiday. Head for the island’s highest peak – Mont Toro, to view the whole of the island. Enjoy the spectacular scenery inland – gentle and pretty, draped with vineyards, figs, olive groves, small farmsteads and white-washed villages. Stop from time to time to explore the ancient monuments, pre-historic burial grounds or Talayots and Taulas, balancing stones, some reaching 12 feet high.
Much of the island is untouched by tourism and farming and leatherwork are still the island’s staple industries.
Whilst on holiday in Menorca, spend some time at Cuidadela, which dates back to 450BC. Explore the hidden palaces within the old town and wander along narrow, cobbled streets, pausing in the sun-filled squares. Enjoy the rich Moorish and Colonial architecture and visit the magnificent cathedral. Some of the restaurants on the waterfront are actually carved out of the rock face overlooking the sea. Or visit Mahon, the island’s capital, where the bay curls gracefully around the deep harbour and the Georgian architecture provides the perfect backdrop for near legendary waterfront restaurants.
Whilst on holiday in Menorca, you'll find plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained. Sail, canoe, water-ski, scuba dive or snorkel. Or relax and enjoy fishing, walking, fish-spotting trips in glass-bottomed boats, excursions and a water theme park.
Many tour operators offer traditional package holidays to Menorca, which can represent excellent value for money. However, you may prefer to choose a hotel in Menorca from the selection of Menorcan hotels available, and add this to a low cost flight to Mahon to create your ideal trip to Menorca.
